Texas Republicans Reaffirm the Independence Referendum Plank at the 2024 Convention

Delegates to the 2024 Republican Party of Texas convention again adopted a platform plank calling for a referendum on Texas independence, reaffirming the plank first adopted in 2022.

NEDERLAND, Texas

Delegates to the 2024 Republican Party of Texas convention again adopted a platform plank calling for a referendum on Texas independence, reaffirming the plank first adopted in 2022. It is the third state convention in a row, after 2020 and 2022, to carry an independence plank.

The plank reflects a position that has only grown more popular: the people of Texas should have the right to vote on their own political future. What was once dismissed as a fringe idea is now written into the platform of the largest political party in the state.

“Three conventions in a row is not an accident,” said Daniel Miller, President of the Texas Nationalist Movement. “It is Texans deciding that the question of Texas independence belongs to the people of Texas, not to the political class.”

More than 630,000 Texans are on record in support of the movement, across all 254 Texas counties.
