Statement from Daniel Miller on Alberta's Independence Referendum
The Texas Nationalist Movement stood with the people of Alberta in their push for an independence referendum, calling it the same fight for self-government underway in Texas.
The Texas Nationalist Movement stands firmly with the people of Alberta in their push for an independence referendum, and in their fight for the most basic right of any people: self-government. For too long, Alberta has been held in a relationship that can only be described as unbalanced.
Ottawa extracts billions in wealth from Alberta's resources while working to undermine the very industries that generate it, taking the maximum benefit and returning the minimum respect. Alberta consistently contributes more to the Canadian confederation than it receives, treated as an economic engine when convenient and denied a meaningful political voice when it counts.
Some will claim Alberta cannot survive on its own, that it needs Ottawa's supervision to function. The facts say otherwise. With a robust economy, abundant natural resources, and a skilled, educated population, Alberta would rank among the most prosperous independent nations in the world, ahead of many that have far fewer advantages.
Albertans should not fall for Project Fear, the campaign of intimidation that always emerges when people dare to question the status quo. We have seen it in Texas, Scotland, Britain, and Catalonia, and the playbook never changes: you cannot do that, they will not let you, it is too hard. Those are the words of people who profit from your submission. The power to decide Alberta's future belongs to Albertans alone.
