Texas Affirms Gold and Silver as Legal Tender as HB 1056 Becomes Law
With House Bill 1056 signed into law, Texas recognizes gold and silver as legal tender, a concrete building block for Texas financial self-government.
The Texas Nationalist Movement welcomes the signing of House Bill 1056, which recognizes gold and silver as legal tender in Texas. The bill became law on June 22, 2025.
For years the movement has argued that a self-governing Texas must control the foundations of its own economy. HB 1056 is a step in that direction. It gives Texans a sound-money option rooted in the assets already held in the Texas Bullion Depository, and it builds practical machinery that a future Republic of Texas would rely on.
“This is the kind of building block that turns the case for Texas independence from an argument into an infrastructure,” said Daniel Miller, President of the Texas Nationalist Movement. “Every Texan who can transact in gold and silver is a Texan who is a little less dependent on Washington.”
The Texas Nationalist Movement will continue to advance measures that strengthen Texas self-government and prepare the ground for a binding vote on Texas independence.
