Attorney General Ken Paxton Files an Amicus Brief Supporting the TNM Against Facebook

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton backed the movement's censorship lawsuit against Meta with an amicus brief defending HB 20, after the suit had already prompted Facebook to stop censoring the movement.

NEDERLAND, Texas

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed an amicus brief in the Texas Nationalist Movement's lawsuit against Meta, the parent company of Facebook, over the censorship of TEXIT content. The suit had already prompted Meta to stop censoring the movement, and it is testing whether Texas can hold social media platforms to House Bill 20.

Paxton's brief is sharply critical of Meta and supportive of the movement's case. It argues that Texas passed HB 20 to protect the free exchange of ideas within its borders, that Facebook had no proper basis to move the suit to federal court because it arises under a Texas law, and that sending the case to California, where state policy runs against HB 20, would harm the interests of Texas and its people.

“I am grateful that Attorney General Paxton has filed an amicus brief that brings to light many of the issues we have raised in our lawsuit,” said TNM President Daniel Miller. “We hope to have the support of his office as we work to ensure that Texas is free from censorship and that freedom of speech is abundant in our great state.”
