Texas Nationalist Movement

TEXIT Basics

Is independence about one issue, or many?

Many issues lead people to it, but they all run into one. The many are the symptoms. The one is the cause. Independence is the answer to the single problem underneath all the others: Texans do not govern Texas.

People arrive from a hundred different doors

Ask Texans why they support independence and you will hear a hundred answers. The federal debt. The border. Property taxes and the cost of living. Federal overreach into Texas business and Texas life. The hundreds of billions of dollars that leave the state every year. Regulation written by people who have never set foot here. Each Texan walks in through the door that matters most to them, and every one of those doors is real.

Every door opens into the same room

Here is what they have in common. Not one of those problems is something Texas can fully fix while it is governed from Washington. The debt is not Texas's to control. The border policy is not Texas's to set. The share of decisions that route through the federal government is not Texas's to reroute. Behind every specific grievance is the same structural fact: the decisions that shape Texas are not made by Texans. That is the one issue. Everything else grows out of it.

That is why independence, and not reform, is the answer

If the problem were any single policy, you could chase a single fix. But you cannot reform your way out of a structure in which Texas is permanently outvoted, sending a handful of voices into a federal government designed to be run by majorities from everywhere else. Independence is not one more item on a list of demands. It is the thing that finally puts Texans in a position to address the whole list themselves.

One issue to win, many to decide later

This is also why the movement keeps the question narrow. The referendum is about one thing: should Texas govern itself. What an independent Texas then does about taxes, the border, or anything else is for Texans to decide afterward, through their own government. Folding every downstream policy into the independence question is the trap that sank Scotland's vote. We win on the one question first. The many questions come after, and they come home to Texas.

The bottom line

Independence is about many issues and one issue at the same time. Many problems bring Texans to the table. They all trace back to a single cause: Texas is governed from somewhere else. Independence is how Texas fixes the cause, and earns the right to decide the rest for itself.

Texas First. Texas Forever.

Texas should govern Texas. Be counted.
